WOLVERINE ver.02 by sausage-of-joy WOLVERINE ver.02 by sausage-of-joy
FULL VIEW FOR ORIGINAL SIZE!
actually it's bigger than the way I drew it. but it seems my details could take a bigger view.
this ones a mixed media painting I did yesterday night and today morning and fixing up now after I returned from school so there's a few hours on this one well spent. anyways it's photoshop and my long overdue return to watercolors.

it's actually mixed media but DA said that if it was traditional/digital it should be put in one of them and not as mixed media bla blah blah.

so ALL comments are wellcome and appreciated!

EDIT: the background has been altered and I added more rocks. and abit bigger sky to get less "emptyness" and negative space in thsi thing.

I love your work on this one...nothing much else to say, EXCEPT: the character somehow doesn't look like wolverine. Perhaps he isn't rugged enough?

Minor details aside... KICKASS.

I know he doesn't look all too wolverine ish... but that's just my style and the way I see him. a younger version but still pretty rough and badass.

First of all Hi.look it's very nice and very atmospheric with the colors and eveything but i think that it's a little flat(form the prospective) or this is how i see.
The colors on the legs mix with the corors of the rock and it give me the idea that iys the same if you put a little harder shadow on the rock maybe the figure "pops out" but again i me be wrong.
Thanx for the beautiful drawing and thanx for the time and listening

flat? what's exacly seems flat in this oen because I really don't see it.
I think ti blends together well with the lines and color but flat!?
as for his legs that was just me being silly with watercolor but I don't intend on covering up my mistakes with digital means and fixing it too much. from the beginning it was just supposed to tone it down at the bottom for a better crop on the legs(a more natural one too). but then I started drawing more and more and bam there was too many shapes and then it just looked like an explosion. so I did the rest of the background.

hey man hello again.
i've read your "conversation" with kecharakittie and all i want to say(about me) is that youre right you dont have to prove anything to anyone and about the hand and the style i didn't comment because i on't care if the hand is wrong the watercolour to much etc because for me at least i doesn't matter all i see is something that i like and have something to give me as for the "flat" ting that i told you you probably are right (i didn't say i was right)anyway thanx for your time to answer me and the good work

ah, i agree with that person about his legs seeming to blend into the rock. if that's what you were going for, then no probs.

also, the proportions on his arms are a bit off. his right wrist is too wide in comparison to his left. also, the proportions of his arms are off in comparison to each other. the forearm is longer than the upper arm and even considering one shoulder being down and the other raised, the arms are out of proportion. the left, farther back arm being longer than his right arm. the elbows are also a bit too pointed and the right forearm muscles don't exactly look right, if you see what i mean.

all in all, it really doesn't matter if this is the style you're driving at. personally, proportions are something i have trouble with but i'm improving on and i'm not big on drawing muscley characters because i doubt i'm much good at it--i'd need reference pictures and frankly i'm usually just too lazy to look for them. and, of course, in drawing anime and having your own anime style of drawing, as in any art style, you can draw your proportions however you wish, but that's just the thing. you want the proportions to come out the way you wanted them to, the way your style lays out. i mainly draw anime styled art because there's a greater freedom in the proportions, say, in the head compared to the body, and less detail is required :D chibi's are so cute.

listen... I'm just really tired of answering these things. but yeah for the millionth time I KNOW ABOUT HIS ARMS! geez. you think I've advance in drawing to the extent I have by not knowing proportions!? of course I doo and I could fucking have drawn him all the more realistic if I wanted but I don't. I love stylistic(if maybe flawed pieces in your opinion). and geez I know his wrist is bigger and yadda yadda. I know fucking anatomy pretty good so drop it. I tend to try and twist the bodies not to make them realistic but to bring something more interesting out. I'm fucking tired of having to explain it eh.
and no manga is not easier. that's what you all seem to think but even manga started out(no doubt) by drawing somewhat from reality even though that was how they interpreted it. if drawing manga is your ultimate ambition then fine by me... but I aim higher.
and that's just bullshit aboiut manga and anime giving you more freedom. if you know bodies and anatomy and structure you can create whatever body in whatever style. it's not like manga GIVES you more freedom with it.
it's not like I have trouble with proportions geez.
having a style like manga and such is not an excuse not to advance above it.
listen until you can draw a Wolverine like that without sketching with a pencil and straight out with ink I think you should just not say anything more about my anatomy and structure. fuck I don't need to prove anything to you. I thought you'd actually gotten my point in our last conversation about proportions on my other piece. gee

lol. i'm not trying to say you don't know about anatomy. i did say if that's what you were going for, then there were no problems. if that's the way you wanted it to turn out, then by all means, that's wonderful.

you told me before that you have serious self confidence issues in your art, but your attitude doesn't say it (not saying that you should have low confidence in your abilities). and whether or not a person has the ability to achieve the same effect as another artist does not mean that they are incapable of seeing flaws, not saying that you make flaws in your proportions (just saying cuz you seem to take generalized statements that i make and see them as aggressive attacks on your work).

i was just trying to clarify that what you drew was what you intended. i didn't mean for you to take it the way you did. i apologize.

i know you're good. you, apparently, know you're good. you don't have to prove anything to me and i don't encourage you to try to.

i didn't see our last conversation as you trying to prove to me your skill or anything like that. just an explanation on a misunderstanding, though now you've seemed to turn things into that. statements of proof. seemed. i'm not trying to put words in your mouth or downgrade your drawings, skills, or abilities. i simply wasn't sure from our previous conversation that you purposely made your artwork this way as an intent and a style and thought questioning on the same topic in this work would clarify that for me.

i'm sorry my intention came across in such an eskewed fashion.

and i'm sorry for my comment about anime and manga. i take it back; it was wrong to say that. the simple fact of being an artist gives one license to whichever style he/she pleases.

no see I got self doubt issues concerning my works yes... but that doesn't mean I can't tell what's good or not. and I am confident in what i say because I know the subject... not because I am super fucking confident in my drawing(although you should really see my pencil sketches recently... I am getting more confident... or well lets say I am pretty confident in my lines but I'm getting more satisfied and I work faster again).

and yes I doo think that artists of different calibers are different good at spotting IMPORTANT flaws.
I checkes myself in the mirror after I wrote the reply. checked the pose wolverine was making... add bandage and bigger muscels and that pose and structure is fully possible. I create my poses after mostly what I myself can do. sometimes I make them more extreme but this pose is pretty calm.
so I win ;P heh

no I wasn't trying to prove my skill. I was trying to help you see the greater significance in the piece in which you failed(no offence).
and I know I don'├Ąt have anything to prove hence why I said it eh. you just repeat me abit toto mcuh at times.,

as for the intent on mkaing the picture this way? I draw for fun... not that i don't care what the outcome looks like but mostly because I love doing it. someone getting all pissy because his shoe is millimeter smaller than the other or so just gets me irritated.

and yeah the comment on the "freedom of manga" was just straight up wrong by all means.

lol. i didn't know this was a contest. i don't think i got all pissy about the shoe; i was just being nitpicky. hadn't meant to be offensive.

anyway, i'm sorry i hadn't mentioned sooner but i like the little details of the claw marks on the second stone. i really like the little extra details artists put in and i'm really into backgrounds. it's like ^^ cuute. the person put a lil more thought or effort into whatever to make the work that much more spiffy.

and now i really need to get going to work. v.v

I just ment that wolvie has probably died a few times since he is self regenerating(slef healing) he can't die so that would make him technically an undead heh.
but yeah thanks.
